simple morning skincare routine for healthy skin

In order to keep your face looking young and beautiful, take care of it first thing in the morning. We take care of our skin every night before we go to sleep. The majority of us have a strict evening skin care regimen, but what about in the mornings? It’s just as crucial to begin your day with a morning skin care regimen as it is at night. It can keep you looking young and vibrant all day. So, here is the best morning skincare routine to prep your skin in the mornings.

The Best Morning Skin Care Routine

Step 1: Start With A Cleansing Oil

Wipe off the grime and product buildup from the previous day first. Then use a cleansing oil to soften your face while also removing makeup and extra oil. Try the DHC Deep Cleansing Oil, it is flexible and suitable for all skin types.

Simply rub a few blobs of the cleanser in your hands to warm them up. Rub it all over in a circular motion after dabbing it on your skin. Rinse once more with warm or tepid water and avoid drying your skin.

Step 2: Follow-Up With A Water-Based Cleanser

Use a non-oily cleanser to thoroughly cleanse your face and remove any leftover dirt and debris afterward. Select a skin-friendly, low-pH cleanser to prevent irritation.

A decent option is the Versed Day Maker Microcrystal Exfoliating Cleanser. Use circular motions to gently massage it onto your skin, then rinse it off with warm water. Dry off your skin using a fresh towel. Look for a cleaner that can reduce the excessive oil production on your face if you have oily skin.

Step 3: Use A Toner

It is important to tone your skin. Any residual oil or dirt from a cleanser can be removed with the aid of a good toner. It reduces pore size and restores the pH equilibrium of your skin. Toners stop the overproduction of oil by your face.

Because it doesn’t contain alcohol, Sisley Botanical Floral Toning Lotion is an excellent option. Take a few drops of toner, apply it equally to your face, and then wait for it to absorb into your skin.

After using the cleanser, wait at least a minute before using any additional products. Your other skin care products may absorb easier if you give the toner some time to dry.

Step 4: Don’t Forget The Serum

Concentrated liquids such as serums are used to target and treat particular skin issues. Choose a serum based on any issues you’re experiencing, and it will produce your desired outcome.

The Aveeno Calm + Restore Triple Oat Hydrating Face Serum is beneficial for enhancing the health of your face. Warm up a small amount of serum by rubbing it between your hands. Starting at the nose and moving outward, apply the serum to your face. For the epidermis to absorb it, leave it on for two to three minutes.

Step 5: Moisturize Your Skin

To hydrate and seal in moisture, select either a water-based gel like Versed Dew Point – Daily Lightweight Gel Face Moisturizer or a creamy moisturizer like Belif The True Cream Moisturizing Bomb depending on the type of skin you have. Your face will be shielded from drying out throughout the day by the moisturizer.

An excellent option is also the Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Facial Moisturizer. Apply the moisturizer to your cheeks and neck by taking a few blobs and gently patting them there. Till the moisturizer is fully absorbed, massage it into your face.

Step 6: Use A Sunscreen

To shield your skin from the sun’s damaging UV radiation, use a sunscreen lotion with at least a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) 30 rating. In the absence of sunscreen, sun damage to your face can cause wrinkles, fine lines, and spots. Sun Bum Original Scent SPF 30 Sunscreen Lotion shields your skin without using any chemicals. Apply sunscreen to your skin and equally massage it in.

Step 7: Protect With An Eye Cream

The thinnest and most delicate area of your face is the tissue under your eyes. As a result, you must use products that are specially designed for this situation. Eye treatments treat issues like dryness, wrinkles, and puffiness around the eyes. The Versed Zero-G Smoothing Eye Cream is an excellent moisturizer for the eye region and works wonders to delay the aging process.

Overall, having a dedicated morning skincare regimen is good for the health and appearance of your skin. Giving yourself a few extra minutes in the morning before facing the hectic day ahead is also a great strategy. Check out some of the suggestions in the infographic below if you want to pamper your skin in the morning and have some additional time.

These Skincare Supplements Will Help You Get The Clearest Skin Of Your Life

7 best supplements for healthy skin

Are you trying to find the finest skincare supplements? Do you think it’s important to supplement your diet with the necessary vitamins and nutrients in order to maintain the health of your skin from within?

In this post, you’ll find some wonderful supplements that, by improving skin hydration, shielding it from outside aggressors, and supplying it with essential vitamins and minerals, will help you achieve naturally radiant skin.

It’s important to occasionally take supplements of certain nutrients because they decline dramatically with age, such as collagen, hyaluronic acid, and vitamin C. Protein and other nutrients like Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids are not produced by the body and must be obtained through food. Additionally, these are crucial to the health of your skin.

Supplements For Skin Health

1. Collagen

collagen peptides for healthy skin

You’re not alone if you regularly put a scoop of collagen in your coffee every morning or take a collagen supplement every day in the hopes that it will improve the condition of your skin. For excellent reasons, collagen supplements are among the most widely advertised supplements to people who want healthier skin.

By the time we reach the age of 25, our bodies have lost up to 30% of their entire collagen supply. After that, collagen starts to deteriorate by 1.5% annually. I recommend using collagen peptides as they are the best option when looking for a collagen supplement because they are very tiny pieces of collagen that are simpler for the body to absorb. Supplementing collagen peptides is a successful treatment to enhance the hydration, suppleness, and wrinkling of human skin.

2. Hyaluronic Acid

The long-chain sugar molecule hyaluronic acid can store 1,000 times its own weight in water. It provides room-filling functionality, serves as a cushion for joints, nerves, skin, and eyes, and keeps the skin hydrated.

Hyaluronic acid should be taken on a regular basis if you’re over 25, as it begins to degrade at this age. Over the course of 12 weeks, daily hyaluronic acid supplementation reduced wrinkle look and increased skin elasticity. It’s also fantastic for enhancing the general flexibility and elasticity of the skin (meaning it makes your skin more stretchy and soft).

3. Vitamin C

vitamin c for healthy skin

Antioxidants like vitamin c aid in defending the skin’s surface against reactive harm brought on by free radicals and outside aggressors. Resveratrol and vitamin C are the most effective antioxidant medicines. Additionally, vitamin C is essential for having healthy skin because it promotes the creation of collagen and shields the skin from UV rays.

Because of this, a vitamin C deficiency causes problems with collagen production, wound healing, and other aspects of skin health. Many people use topical vitamin C products to enhance their skin’s look, but can vitamin C supplements also be beneficial to the skin? There is some proof that taking vitamin C supplements encourages the creation of collagen. A greater dietary vitamin C intake may also be linked to better-looking skin, according to research.

According to some research, taking vitamin C supplements along with other nutrients like zinc and collagen may help with skin problems like wrinkles and dryness. However, vitamin C supplements are safe and may have additional advantages for the cardiovascular system, immune system, and cognitive performance. Additionally, they are a good option for older people and other people who frequently consume inadequate amounts of vitamin C in their diets.

4. Protein

Protein is a necessary nutrient for healthy skin, hair, and nails as well as the building component of body cells. When the body is deficient in protein for an extended period of time, it will consume your skin and hair to meet its protein requirements.

When it comes to protein reserves, the hair and skin are the first to be attacked, and if you look carefully at people who follow diets low in protein, you will notice that their skin and hair lack luster and shine. This is because there won’t be enough protein to maintain healthy, glowing skin and hair.

It’s a good idea to add a protein powder supplement to your diet if you don’t get enough protein from your meals each day.

5. Omega-3 Fatty Acids

omega 3 fatty acids for healthy skin

Fish oil high in omega-3s is very a very versatile supplement. Omega-3 fatty acids have been demonstrated to improve health in a variety of ways, including by enhancing heart health and reducing joint discomfort. And, of course, enhance your skin’s health.

Inadequate intake of omega-3 fatty acids can have a negative impact on your skin and even lead to skin diseases. Omega-3 fatty acids serve important roles in skin function. Skin disorders like atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, acne, and skin ulcers can be helped by omega-3 supplements. Supplementing with omega-3 fatty acids may also help prevent skin cancer.

However, aside from their ability to reduce acne, there isn’t much proof that omega-3 supplements enhance the real appearance of the skin. Because of this, there isn’t enough proof to back taking omega-3 supplements if your only objective is to improve the appearance of your skin, even though they may be an effective treatment for skin conditions like acne and psoriasis and can benefit the health of the heart, brain, and other organs.

6. Biotin

The majority of hair, skin, and nail supplements contain the B vitamin biotin as one of their primary components. There is no proof that biotin supplements benefit the skin, hair, or nails or improve skin appearance unless you truly have a biotin deficiency.

Despite the fact that many people swear by biotin for glowing skin and strong hair. Rare cases of biotin deficiency make biotin supplements unnecessary for typically healthy individuals who consume a balanced diet. This is due to the fact that your gut flora and a number of foods, including oats and eggs, both contain the vitamin Biotin. Therefore, don’t waste your money on biotin supplements in the hope of enhancing the look of your skin unless you have a reason to do so.

7. Multivitamins

Do you need multivitamins for healthy skin? Multivitamins can be beneficial for people who don’t get enough micronutrients through their diet. According to some research, some individuals may benefit from supplements that contain combinations of vitamins, minerals, and other ingredients in order to improve common skin issues like dryness and dullness.

I saw a change in my skin’s dullness, dryness, pigmentation, and general appearance after starting to take multivitamins. People who are deficient or insufficient in certain nutrients that affect skin health, such as vitamin C, vitamin A, certain B vitamins, and zinc, may benefit from taking a multivitamin to enhance their skin’s appearance.

Do You Actually Need Supplements For Your Skin

Supplements aren’t typically required for skin health, despite the fact that they can help treat certain skin conditions like acne and are essential for those who can’t or don’t consume enough nutrients from their diet.

The fact is that a healthy diet cannot be replaced by supplements when it comes to skin maintenance. Look at your diet to see what it might be lacking if you’re usually healthy and just want to care for your skin from the inside out.

Try your best to stay hydrated, consume a lot of fruits and vegetables, and include nutritious sources of fat and protein in your meals if you want to maintain the health of your skin and limit your intake of foods like sugary and highly processed foods that have been related to bad skin health.

Double Cleansing Is The Secret Weapon You Need To Finally Clear Your Skin

double cleansing guide

We are all aware of the significance of a well-curated, efficient skincare routine; for many people, less is more.

It can be challenging for these minimalists to reconcile the two-step face wash process known as double cleansing. Does this extra step really matter that much, after all?

Let’s find out if this popular cleansing method is actually worth your time.

  • 15 Best Spa Facials & Facial Treatments For Acne-Prone Skin
  • At-Home Steam Facial On A Budget (+Steaming Benefits)

What Is Double Cleansing?

The procedure known as double cleansing, which is exclusively used at night, includes washing your face with two different cleansers.

The first formula, which is frequently a balm or oil, is designed to dissolve makeup, dirt, oil, and debris and remove them from your face.

While the second formula, which may be a more conventional foaming or gel cleanser, should pick up any residue that the first cleanser may have missed and leave your face perfectly clean.

Benefits Of Double Cleansing

What is the double cleansing method’s greatest advantage? It is made to remove makeup, excess oil, and dirt without the use of harsh chemicals or manual scrubbing.

Using abrasive or powerful chemicals and scrubbing while removing makeup, can create irritated skin reactions. Aggressive rubbing can also damage superficial capillaries and blood vessels, which results in redness.

As double cleansing calls for kinder products and a more delicate approach, you can skip both.

The first phase of your double cleanse allows you to carefully break down whatever it is you need to eliminate; the second should replenish your moisture and provide calming effects. Another advantage of utilizing this technique is that it thoroughly cleans your skin before applying a subsequent cleanser.

And because of this, I would say that double cleansing is worth it.

Why You Shouldn’t Be Double Cleansing

Although it benefits most skin types, double cleaning is especially beneficial for people with oily skin because it gives you two chances to eliminate (but not strip!) excess oil.

However, it can be drying. This procedure can eliminate the little oil you produce on your own if you are already on the drier side.

Another drawback to take into account is that, if you don’t often wear a lot of makeup, it may result in over-cleansing, which irritates the skin.

In the end, you can only decide if double cleansing is right for you by giving it a try. It’s a success if you wake up with more balanced skin, but if you feel tight or dry, it’s preferable to go back to a single cleanse.

How To Double Cleanse

Double cleansing is simple, just add one additional step to your regular evening skincare routine to perform double cleansing.

Work your oil-based cleanser into your skin first. You can also use micellar water, which is applied with a cotton ball, reusable microfiber pad, or towel made specifically for removing makeup. To make eye makeup removal easier, lay the pad over your eyes for 15 to 20 seconds. This will help the makeup break down.

After that, rinse with lukewarm water before applying your second cleanser, which should either be foam- or gel-based. Then use a circular motion to massage this product into your face.

When And How Often Should You Be Double Cleansing?

While there is no set time or frequency for double cleansing, it is usually done at night to remove the day’s makeup and debris.

Double cleanse every night if you wear makeup. If not, one cleanse should be sufficient unless you have been exposed to the outside environment and dust for an extended period of time.

No matter the skin type, moisturize after the double cleansing to add back that lost hydration. Even a single cleansing can momentarily compromise the skin barrier, causing trans-epidermal water loss and dry skin. A ceramide-based moisturizer must be used right after double cleansing.

Using a therapy serum containing active ingredients for skin restoration after cleansing is the recommended routine when using actives and follow it up with a moisturizer to add back hydration.

At-Home Steam Facial On A Budget (+Steaming Benefits)

Filed Under: Skin, Self Care // 07/28/2024

Steam facial at home

Life can easily get away from us, and it can be difficult to visit an esthetician or day spa to get that natural healthy glow.

But you can still enjoy the benefits of a relaxing steam facial in the comfort of your home when you do your skincare routine. With little to no equipment or new skincare products needed at all.

What Is An At-Home Steam Facial

The use of facial steamers is the practice of using steam from hot water to soothe the surface of your skin and give you a deeper cleanse to allow better skincare product absorption, get rid of stubborn blackheads, and just overall improve the appearance of your skin.

You can use a bowl of hot water or a face steamer tool, essential oils or facial oils, and herbs like green tea of your choice.

Benefits of Steaming Your Face

-Hydrates: Because hot steam is water vapor, it helps to give the skin added hydration and keep it supple. It also hydrates the skin by increasing oil production, naturally moisturizing the face from the deeper layers of the skin. Natural oils keep your skin soft, and smooth and help absorb topical products in your skin routine better.

-Releases Trapped & Excess Sebum: This naturally occurring oil is produced to lubricate your skin and hair. Skin cells trap sebum, when sebum gets trapped beneath your skin’s surface it can create a breeding ground for acne-causing bacteria and may cause breakouts and stubborn blackheads. When warm steam releases excess sebum, these breakouts can be prevented.

-Promotes A Boost Of Blood Flow: Heat can encourage blood circulation, which provides the skin with more oxygen and improves the skin health. The increased blood circulation experienced during a steam sesh promotes collagen and elastin production, resulting in firmer, younger-looking skin with a healthy glow.

Choosing Your Liquid Base

You can choose from various liquid bases for your home facial, all bases will hone the same benefits of facial steaming, but some bases may offer more potential benefits than others.

-Tap Water: The most affordable option, tap water contains minerals that will steam into your face if you use it. However, tap water contains heavy metals and other pollutants that can affect the integrity of the moist steam.

-Distilled water: You could also use distilled water, a better option than tap water because it is filtered and purified, which is much better for sensitive skin.

-Herbal Tea (Green Tea): Herbal teas can offer skin health benefits like antioxidants, they also help your body release toxins. They also contain anti-aging benefits to slow the aging process of the skin.

Adding Herbs and Essential Oils

Adding herbs and facial oils to your steam facial can offer more benefits. There are many different ones to choose from, each with different benefits.

-Chamomile: Helps with skin inflammation and dermatitis providing a healthy glow. It is also very rich in antioxidants.

-Rosemary: Great option for oily and acne-prone skin.

-Lavender: Great for dry skin, flaky skin and eczema. It has aromatherapy benefits and reduces swelling and redness caused by acne.

-Geranium: Tightens and tones the skin.

-Eucalyptus: Great for acne-prone skin or congested skin, unclogs pores and cleanses acne-causing bacteria and excess sebum.

-Orange: May help with blocked pores and a dull complexion to give you a healthy glow.

How to DIY At-Home Steam Facial

Cleanse Your Face

woman washing her face to steam

The first step is to wash your face with a gentle cleanser, consider the ingredients , especially active ingredients in the cleanser to find the one that best suits you. I like the Alpha Beta daily cleanser gel from Dr. Dennis Gross. You want your face to be completely free of any buildup of dirt, excess facial oil, and dead skin cells.

The hot steam opens up your pores and if your skin is unclean, you can trap dirt in your open pores, causing irritation, acne breakouts, and blackheads.

Go in twice with your cleanser for a double cleanse, this way you will ensure that your face is thoroughly clean.

  • Is Double Cleansing Really Worth Your Time?

Exfoliate Your Skin

Use your favorite physical or chemical exfoliant for a deeper cleanse to remove pore-clogging dead skin cells.

This will further ensure the cleanliness of your skin and avoid trapping dirt in your pores.

  • Why You Should Exfoliate Your Face

Prep Your Steamer

Boil a pot of water(tap or distilled). Grab a clean towel, your choice of herbs, and essential oils.

Once your water has come to a boil, pour it into a large bowl.

If you have a facial steamer at home. You can just fill it up with water and add the herbs and oils to it.

Add Your Green Tea and Oils

If you’re using any oils or herbs, add them now and stir them in. Let the water sit for a few minutes to let it steep.

Also let the water cool because if the water is too hot, the steam can burn your face.

Steam Your Face

Lean over your bowl or steamer. Keeping your face about 30cm from the water. Drape your towel over your head to trap the steam.

Steam your face for about 10-15 minutes to clear out your pores.

Pat your skin dry with your clean, soft towel. Be careful not to rub.

What To Do After Facial Steam

Use a Facial Toner

After steaming, wipe your face down and apply a toner to help clear away any additional impurities loosened by the steam.

  • What Does Facial Toner Do for Your Skin And Should You Be Using One?

Put on a Face Mask

For that special steam facial experience, follow up with a face mask, preferably one you have cooled in your fridge. You can choose from various types of face masks, sheet, peel-off, or clay masks.

Choose the best for your skin type and use it to soothe and moisturize your skin after your steam facial.

Moisturize

Finish off your facial by applying your favorite moisturizer. You can also opt to use an oil to really seal in the moisture.

How Often Should You Do a Steam Facial

When deciding how often to steam your face, consider your skin type.

People with oily skin tend to benefit more from facial steaming, so you can get away with doing it twice a week.

Steam your face once a week for the best results.

Limit each steam session to under 15 minutes to avoid irritating your skin.

Safety Tips For Steam Facials

Always allow your water to sit and cool for a few minutes to ensure it’s not too hot.

Limit your steams to a maximum of 15 minutes to avoid burns.

Your skin is extra sensitive after a steam, so avoid rubbing and touching your skin too much to avoid irritating it too much.

Risks and Side Effects

As with every beauty treatment, there are possible risks and side effects to consider before you try it out.

-Scalding: This is a type of burn that can result from overexposing the boiling water, so take precautions when steaming your face.

-Inflammation: If you suffer from eczema, rosacea, or dermatitis, steaming can irritate and exacerbate the symptoms even more. the high temperature can lead to increased inflammation.

-Dryness: Steaming promotes the secretion of natural oils, leading to hydrated skin, but people with dry skin should proceed with caution as it can lead to irritation and dryness.

How to Prevent and Heal Chapped Lips When Lip Balm Can’t Help

how to heal chapped lips

Most of us have had chapped lips at some point, regardless of the season.

While you might be tempted to keep licking your lips or putting lip balm on your lips for short-term relief, these behaviors might worsen the situation.

Chapped lips can easily become dehydrated, inflamed, and tear, but there are ways to prevent and treat dry, irritated lips, to prevent this from happening.

Why Your Lips Are Chapped

Although many individuals link chapped lips to cold weather, there are a variety of other causes for mouth irritation. Lips cannot moisturize themselves like the rest of the face because they lack oil glands (sebaceous glands that produce sebum).

Licking your lips, dehydration, a lack of fluids, and irritation from cosmetics or skin care products can all cause and worsen the lips’ dehydration and leave them chapped. Furthermore, prolonged sun exposure can make the lips feel dry and blister.

How To Know If You Have Chapped Lips

You’ll likely know when your lips are chapped and treatment is necessary, but some common symptoms include:

-Dryness

-Irritation

-Roughness

-Peeling skin

-Mild pain

How To Prevent Chapped Lips

Using lip balm is the most popular strategy to avoid chapped lips, but there are other effective preventative measures.

Don’t lick your lips or use irritating makeup, spend as little time in cool or hot, dry air, and stay out of the sun as much as possible, and when you are out in the sun, make sure to use a lip balm that contains Spf.

Staying hydrated also helps prevent chapped lips. To keep the space moist, you might also try running a cool-water humidifier in your room.

Ingredients To Avoid While Your Lips Are Chapped:

To help chapped lips heal, stop applying lip products that contain any of the following ingredients:

-Fragrance, dyes, and glitters

-Camphor

-Flavorings like: Cinnamon, citrus, mint, and peppermint flavors can be especially irritating to dry, chapped lips

-Eucalyptus

-Octinoxate or oxybenzone

-Menthol

-Lanolin

-Phenol (or phenyl)

-Propyl gallate

-Salicylic acid

How To Heal Chapped Lips

It’s time to be more attentive with your lip care routine if you’ve tried the previous preventive measures and your lips are still feeling chapped.

Apply a barrier repair moisturizer to your lips at night and then coat them with oil, such as Zerafite wrinkle protection or choose argan oil since it has calming fatty acids.

Apply lip products that contain both occlusives and humectants during the day. Water cannot evaporate away from the surface because occlusives cover and shield it. Water is drawn into humectants. Occlusives include oils, waxes, and petrolatum, whereas humectants include glycerin and hyaluronic acid.

Burt’s Bees Lip Balm

LANEIGE Lip Sleeping Mask

NIVEA Smoothness Lip Care SPF 15

Ingredients That Help Heal Your Chapped Lips:

While some ingredients can irritate dry, cracked lips, others can help them heal. When looking for products to use on your chapped lips, dermatologists recommend ones that contain one or more of the following:

-Castor seed oil

-Hyaluronic acid which works as a humectant to attract water and hydration

-Ceramides which are lipids that form the building blocks of the skin barrier

-Dimethicone

-Hemp seed oil

-Mineral oil

-Petrolatum

-Shea butter

-Sun-protective ingredients, such as titanium oxide or zinc oxide

-White petroleum jelly

It also helps to use products that are fragrance-free and hypoallergenic.

When To See A Dermatologist?

Beyond harsh heat and dehydration, there may be another factor contributing to your chapped lips.

After a week or two, if chapped lips still don’t improve with these types of at-home treatments, it is recommended to contact a dermatologist to rule out anything more dangerous, like early precancerous lesions.

It is best to contact a dermatologist in either situation if you have substantial sensitivity or pain because some topical medicines can aid in accelerating healing.

The Best Skincare Routine For Healthy Skin, When Nothing Else Seems To Work

skincare routine

Starting your skincare journey can be overwhelming, having good skin just isn’t enough anymore.

From serums to oils, cleansers, and toners, it can be very confusing as to where to begin and what products and ingredients you need for a good skincare routine.

Not to mention a decent skincare routine can cost you an arm and a leg.

So we did all the research for you, considering dermatologists’ tips and secrets, and have made it all that much easier for you.

Now you’ll know the order in which you need to use these products and what’s best suited for your skin type, so you won’t be spending money on products that don’t work.

  • The Ultimate Guide to Sunscreen After Chemical Peels

What Skin Type Am I?

Having the perfect routine doesn’t matter if you aren’t curating it to your specific skin type. Finding out what skin type isn’t all that hard, all you need to do is pay attention to your skin and look out for the following cues.

-Dry Skin: Your skin often feels tight around your mouth and eyes, as well as flaking and dry patches on your cheeks. Dry skin is also typically dull and rough.

-Oily Skin: your skin is generally soft and greasy to the touch, with an especially greasy T-zone. This is due to an excess amount of sebum that causes your skin to appear shiny. You’re also more likely to have enlarged pores and are prone to acne breakouts.

-Combination Skin: You have both oily and dry skin. With a focus on oil in your T-zone area.

Steps For a Perfect Skincare Routine

Step 1: Cleanser

This should always be the first step of your routine; it clears out impurities and excess oil that can clog pores and dull skin. A good cleanser will gently cleanse your skin without stripping it.

-Dry Skin: A cream or balm cleanser with hydrating ingredients like ceramides, glycerin, hyaluronic acid, and botanical oils to retain moisture.

-Oily Skin: A foaming or gel cleanser will remove excess oil and dirt, look for a cleanser containing niacinamide and salicylic acid. To combat acne also look out for ingredients such as glycolic acid, benzoyl peroxide, or sulfur.

-Combination Skin: When it comes to the best cleansers for combination skin, look for ones with a gel or light foam base that have gentle exfoliants to counteract oiliness and ingredients like ceramides or hyaluronic acid for hydration.

If you wear makeup often, consider removing your makeup with micellar water first then follow up with your cleanser.

Step 2: Toner

After a thorough cleanse, use your toner, applying it to dry skin with a cotton ball or cloth. This helps ensure that your skin is totally clean and gunk-free.

-Dry Skin: The best toner for your skin would need to contain hydrating ingredients such as glycerin, and hyaluronic acid. Alcohol will dry out your skin even more, stray away from products containing it.

-Oily Skin: Astringents like alcohol with witch hazel that tighten pores will have the best effect on your skin.

-Combination Skin: Look for gentle exfoliants that act as hydration boosters that contain antioxidants like Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and green tea.

Step 3: Serum

Using serums will help prevent the formation of free radicals and lessen signs of aging and over time it can also help mitigate dark spots and reverse skin damage from sun and pollution.

Look for serums containing the following ingredients;

–Hyaluronic acid draws moisture into the skin, fights dryness and dullness, plus plumps the skin.

–Niacinamide brightens and evens the skin tone, boosts collagen production, and calms inflammation.

–Retinoids stimulate cell turnover, increase collagen production, and reduce wrinkles and hyperpigmentation.

–Peptides made of amino acids are building blocks of collagen and can boost production to smooth out fine lines and increase skin firmness.

Step 4: Eye cream

woman applying eyecream

The undereye area is very delicate and ages faster than the rest of your face.

Therefore, specific formulas have been made to serve the needs of this area. When you use a good eye cream, it reduces the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, a lack of firmness, dark circles, and bags.

Specific ingredients target specific problems;

–Niacinamide, Vitamin C, and K target dark circles under the eye and visibly reduce their appearance.

–Look for a formula containing caffeine to combat puffiness of the skin.

–For wrinkles and sagging skin, look for peptides and retinol to tighten up the skin.

–Hyaluronic acid adds moisture back into your under eyes.

When applying the cream, make sure to use gentle tapping motions. Using your ring finger as it is the weakest. This will avoid you from tugging at the already delicate skin and prevent you from damaging it.

Step 5: Moisturize

Using a daily moisturizer keeps your face soft, smooth, and hydrated. While strengthening the barrier as well. Look for moisturizers with ceramides or hyaluronic acid.

-Dry Skin: Thicker formulas like creams with emollients, humectants, and ceramides are best for your skin. These ingredients help add moisture back into your skin and retain them.

-Oily Skin: Opt for lighter formulas like lotions or gels that are non-comedogenic which is just a fancy word for oil-free. Don’t skip moisturizing just because your skin is oily, it needs that moisture too.

-Sensitive Skin: Look for moisturizers marked hypoallergenic and free of irritants like fragrance and alcohol.

Massage Moisturizers into your skin to help with absorption and increase circulation.

Step 6: Retinoids

These are Vitamin A derivatives that can reduce the appearance of dark spots and fine lines. They also help reduce breakouts. They accomplish this by increasing skin-cell turnover.

These break down in the sun and can cause damage to your skin if used during the day. They make your skin extra sensitive to the sun so make sure to increase your SPF when you incorporate these into your skincare routine.

Begin by applying this 3 times weekly then gradually increase the frequency of use. This allows your skin to become familiar with the product.

And only use these at night.

Step 7: Sunscreen

sunscreen

This is the most important step of your skincare routine. No matter what, always use sunscreen. This protects your skin barrier from the sun and prevents skin damage.

Use an SPF above 30 and look for one that protects from both UVA and UVB.

People Also Ask:

What Is Vitamin C And Does It Add To My Skincare Routine

Vitamin C is an antioxidant, with anti-aging effects on your skin. It protects skin from free radical damage (premature aging) and reduces fine lines and wrinkles.

It also enhances collagen production which creates tighter and younger-looking skin.

Should I Exfoliate?

Exfoliating is a technique that helps remove the skin’s outer layer of dead skin cells to make it smoother, brighter, and clearer. there are 3 main types of exfoliating;

-Physical: These are washcloths, cleansing brushes, and face scrubs, all products that work at your skin to remove dead skin with a physical motion. You run the risk of tearing your skin barrier when you use these products, so go about it with a light hand. This is best for dry skin.

-Chemical: Face peels and cleansers with acids like AHAs and BHAs that loosen the bonds between dead skin cells to dislodge them are all chemical exfoliants. These are best for oily and acne-prone skin.

-Combination: These contain both physical and chemical ingredients in one product. These are best suited for oily skin.

Should I Invest In Skincare Tools and Gadgets

A washcloth is really the only gadget you need, however, there are a few products out there that can do wonders for your skin such as;

-Facial Cleansing Brushes: These are great for people with dry skin, they help you get a deeper cleanse as well as exfoliate your skin.

–Gua Sha Tools: Like jade rollers, these smooth stones can deliver a mini facelift effect due to lymphatic facial drainage.

–Facial Steamers: For oily skin, acne-prone skin, or deep-rooted blackheads. Using this for 15 minutes can help unclog your pores and help your skincare absorption.

Incorporate these steps and ingredients into your skincare routine, as well as cool your products in your skincare fridge and you will begin to see a huge difference.

Why You Should Use Body Scrubs

Body scrubs play a crucial role in maintaining healthy and radiant skin. Here are some compelling reasons why you should incorporate body scrubs into your body care routine:

Exfoliation: Body scrubs effectively remove dead skin cells and impurities from the skin’s surface, revealing smoother and softer skin underneath.

Improved Circulation: Massaging the scrub onto your skin stimulates blood flow, promoting healthier skin and a radiant glow.

Moisture Retention: By eliminating dead skin cells, body scrubs allow your skin to better absorb moisturizers and lotions, maximizing their benefits.

Tackles Skin Issues: Some body scrubs are formulated to address specific skin concerns, such as acne, fine lines, wrinkles, and stretch marks.

Now that you know why body scrubs are a must-have in your skincare arsenal, let’s go over how to use them correctly.

What To Look For In Body Scrubs

When shopping for body scrubs, it’s essential to consider certain factors to ensure you choose the right product for your skin. Here are some key aspects to look for:

Ingredients: Check the ingredient list for natural and nourishing components like sugar, salt, coffee, shea butter, coconut oil, or essential oils. Avoid scrubs with harsh chemicals or artificial fragrances that may irritate your skin.

Skin Type: Different scrubs cater to various skin types, such as dry, oily, sensitive, or combination skin. Opt for a scrub that matches your specific skin needs to achieve the best results.

Exfoliation Intensity: Scrubs come in varying levels of exfoliation, from gentle to more abrasive. Choose one that suits your preferences and skin sensitivity. For sensitive skin, milder exfoliants are recommended.

Targeted Benefits: Consider any specific skin concerns you want to address, such as acne, cellulite, stretch marks, or signs of aging. Some scrubs may have added ingredients to target these issues.

Texture: Pay attention to the texture of the scrub. Some prefer smoother textures, while others may prefer coarser scrubs for more intense exfoliation.

Fragrance: If you enjoy scented products, opt for a body scrub with a fragrance that appeals to you. However, be cautious if you have sensitive skin, as some fragrances can cause irritation.

Packaging: Look for scrubs that come in airtight and leak-proof containers to preserve their freshness and prevent spills.

Cruelty-Free and Vegan Options: If you prioritize ethical choices, check for body scrubs labeled as cruelty-free and vegan.

Customer Reviews: Before making a purchase, read customer reviews to gain insights into the product’s effectiveness and potential drawbacks.

By considering these factors, you can select a body scrub that aligns with your skin’s needs and preferences, helping you achieve smoother, healthier, and more radiant skin.

What Do Body Scrubs Do?

Body scrubs play a vital role in maintaining healthy and radiant skin.

These exfoliating body care products are designed to remove dead skin cells, dirt, and impurities from the skin’s surface, revealing a smoother and more refreshed complexion underneath.

By promoting gentle exfoliation, body scrubs help to improve skin texture, making it softer and more even.

Additionally, the massaging action during body scrub application stimulates blood circulation, which contributes to a healthier skin appearance.

Moreover, body scrubs prepare the skin for better absorption of moisturizers and other body care products, as they clear away the barrier of dead skin cells that can prevent effective penetration.

Whether you seek to address specific skin concerns or simply want to pamper yourself, using body scrubs can lead to glowing, nourished, and revitalized skin.

Are Body Scrubs Safe To Use?

When used correctly and on healthy skin, body scrubs are generally safe and beneficial. However, it’s crucial to exercise caution and follow proper guidelines to avoid potential risks.

If you have sensitive or easily irritated skin, we advise you to choose milder exfoliants and perform a patch test before applying the body scrub to a larger area.

Over-exfoliation can lead to skin irritation, redness, or even damage, so it’s essential not to use body scrubs too frequently. Stick to using them 2-3 times per week, depending on your skin type and the scrub’s intensity.

Avoid using body scrubs on open wounds, cuts, or sunburned skin, as this may worsen the condition.

Always read the product’s label and follow the manufacturer’s instructions for safe and effective use. If you have any skin concerns or medical conditions, it’s best to consult with a dermatologist before incorporating body scrubs into your skincare routine.

By using body scrubs sensibly and understanding your skin’s needs, you can enjoy their exfoliating benefits without compromising safety.

Is Physical Or Chemical Exfoliation Best?

The choice between physical and chemical exfoliation depends on your skin type and individual preferences.

Physical exfoliation involves using abrasive particles or tools to physically remove dead skin cells and impurities from the skin’s surface. This method is suitable for those with normal to oily skin and can provide immediate smoothness and a refreshing feeling.

However, individuals with sensitive or dry skin may find physical exfoliants too harsh, leading to irritation or redness.

On the other hand, chemical exfoliation involves using acids or enzymes to dissolve dead skin cells and promote cell turnover.

This method is generally gentler and more suitable for sensitive or dry skin types. Chemical exfoliants can also address specific skin concerns, such as acne, hyperpigmentation, or fine lines, making them versatile options for various skin issues.

Ultimately, the best choice for your skin type depends on its sensitivity and specific needs.

If you have normal to oily skin and prefer immediate results, physical exfoliation may be suitable for you.

If you have sensitive or dry skin, or if you’re looking for targeted solutions for specific skin concerns, chemical exfoliation could be the better option.

Regardless of the method chosen, remember to use exfoliants in moderation and always follow the instructions to avoid over-exfoliation and potential skin irritation.

If you’re unsure which type of exfoliation is best for you, consulting with a dermatologist can help determine the most suitable approach for your unique skin type and goals.

Benefits Of Body Scrubs

The benefits of using body scrubs extend beyond just exfoliation. Here are some additional advantages:

Glowing Skin: Regular exfoliation with body scrubs reveals radiant and glowing skin.

Even Skin Tone: Body scrubs can help even out skin tone by reducing the appearance of dark spots and pigmentation.

Anti-Aging Effects: Some body scrubs contain ingredients that target fine lines and wrinkles, promoting a more youthful appearance.

Smooth Texture: Say goodbye to rough, bumpy skin as body scrubs create a smoother texture.

Improved Product Absorption: By removing dead skin cells, body scrubs enhance the absorption of other skincare products.

Now that you understand the benefits and how to use body scrubs, here are the top-rated body scrubs from Amazon, when you’re on a budget!

Learn how to create this luxurious homemade body butter using natural ingredients, with the added benefits of colloidal oatmeal for a soothing and calming touch. Indulge in self-care and say hello to silky smooth skin!

Benefits of Colloidal Oatmeal in Your Body Butter

Before we dive into the recipe, let’s explore the fantastic benefits of adding colloidal oatmeal to your body butter.

Colloidal oatmeal is rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties, making it perfect for soothing and calming irritated skin. It helps to lock in moisture, making your skin feel incredibly smooth and hydrated.

Moreover, colloidal oatmeal is gentle, making it an excellent choice for those with sensitive skin.

How To Make Colloidal Oatmeal Whipped Body Butter

Now that we understand the incredible benefits of adding colloidal oatmeal to body butter, let’s dive into a delightful DIY recipe that will leave your skin feeling thoroughly pampered.

Create your own colloidal oatmeal body butter from natural ingredients and indulge in the soothing goodness it brings with this easy-to-follow guide:

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 Cup coconut oil
  • 1/3 Cup shea butter
  • 1/3 Cup cocoa butter wafers
  • 1/3 Cup jojoba oil
  • 2 Teaspoons colloidal oatmeal
  • Essential oils (optional)

If you want to make colloidal oatmeal at home, we have a great blog post on how to make colloidal oatmeal at home, plus how to use it in a soothing oatmeal bath.

Directions:

  1. In a double boiler or saucepan over low heat, melt the coconut oil, cocoa butter, and shea butter until fully combined. If you don’t have a double boiler, a large glass measuring cup works just as well.
  2. Turn off the heat and add the jojoba oil and essential oils (if using) to the melted mixture. Stir thoroughly to incorporate the essential oils.
  3. Pour the mixture into a medium glass bowl and place it in the refrigerator for about two hours to cool and solidify. You can also chill the oils directly in the fridge.
  4. Once the mixture is completely solid, take the bowl out of the refrigerator and transfer it to a stand mixer. You can also use a hand mixer if that’s what you have. Whip the body butter until it becomes light, fluffy, and airy.
  5. Add the colloidal oatmeal to the whipped body butter and beat again to ensure it’s evenly distributed.
  6. Scoop the colloidal oatmeal whipped body butter into containers and store them in a cool, dry place.

How to Store Colloidal Oatmeal Whipped Body Butter

Since the body butter contains natural oils and butter, it may melt if exposed to warm temperatures.

To maintain its light and fluffy texture, store the body butter in a cool, dry environment. If the oils accidentally melt, don’t worry! You can refrigerate the body butter and re-whip it to restore its delightful consistency.

Enjoy the luxurious and nourishing feel of this colloidal oatmeal whipped body butter, perfect for pampering yourself or giving it as a thoughtful gift to loved ones.

Indulge in the goodness of natural ingredients and experience the benefits of colloidal oatmeal for your skin. Happy whipping!
